Asian Powerlifting: Pakistani Sisters Who Gave A Unique Interpretation To Their Father’s Dreams

Sibal Sohail, Maryam Sohail, Twinkle Sohail and Veronica Sohail, four sisters from Sanda, a suburb of Lahore’s Kachahari district, set a unique record by participating together in the 2018 Asian Bench Press Championship in Dubai and winning various medals. ۔

However, the Asian Power lifting Federation acknowledged this in a letter to the Pakistan Power lifting Federation last month.

The letter said that this is a unique record not only in the history of Pakistan but also in the history of Asian power lifting.

The Asian Power lifting Federation says that such a unique achievement is a source of pride for the country and helps in the promotion of sports in the new generation.

According to Rashid Malik, Secretary, Pakistan Power lifting Federation, this record of four sisters of Pakistan has been recognized by the Asian Power lifting Federation after two years of research and investigation.

The letter recommended that the government should fully appreciate the success of the four sisters. Also, the Asian Power lifting Federation wishes and congratulates them on their further achievements.

According to Rashid Malik, this is also a world record and in this regard the International Power lifting Federation has also been contacted which is conducting research on it.

“I am 100% hopeful that the international body will recognize this record soon,” he said.

During the Asian Bench Press Championship 2018, Saibel Sohail won the bronze medal by securing the third position in the 47 kg category.

Twinkle Sohail Jr. was the winner in the 72 kg category and won the gold medal.

Maryam Sohail also bagged bronze with third position in the 72 kg category.

Who Are The Unique Record-Breaking Sisters?

The sisters, who set a unique record, are residents of Sanda, a suburb of Lahore’s Kachahari district. His father’s name is Sohail Javed Khokhar. They also have three sons.

He is an artist by profession and makes a variety of paintings and artwork.

Sohail Khokhar said in an interview that “I was very fond of sports as a child. I was obsessed with becoming a cricketer. But my parents didn’t allow me to play, which is why when I had children, I started seeing my unfulfilled dreams in my children.

When The Four Sisters Went To Dubai

Maryam Sohail said, “When we went to Dubai in 2018, first match there was mine. “Like other players, I have to wear shorts,” the organizer said, girls can participate in competitions only by wearing shorts. It was unacceptable for us.

We are Pakistani. Under no circumstances can we turn away from our culture and civilization. Maryam Said.

“On this occasion, we sisters not only refused to wear shorts but also told them that we would compete without wearing shorts,” she said.

Officials from all the participating countries sat down and began scrutinizing the rules. After which we were told that we could compete in full suits.

Maryam Sohail said, “This situation, which had been going on for a long time, had enabled me to stand at the medal table despite the negative impact on my performance.

Now if we take part in competitions in any country of the world, we will not be asked to wear shorts.

International Honors And A Salary Of Twenty Thousand Rupees

Twinkle and Sable are also currently playing for WAPDA.

“Both sisters get a salary of Rs 20,000,” Twinkle said. We are also thankful that we are getting something. For some, the burden on our parents is lessening.

“When the four of us sisters won various medals from Dubai in 2018, a prize of Rs 500,000 was announced for us,” said Saibel. Out of this we got only three Lac rupees.

Sohail Khokhar said, “Apart from our sponsors, some people who love the federation and sports help. The daughters have not yet received the support they deserve.

“I urge the sports board and the government to spend on sports whose players can win medals for the country and who can make Pakistan famous in the world,” he said.

Rashid Malik said, “We have received support from Punjab University. Due to which the coaching of these sisters and other players has become possible.

Now that the university is closed, our coaching center has been closed for six months due to Covid-19 situation. As a result, it has become difficult for these sisters and other female athletes to continue their practice
